DIRECT POSITIVE TYPE SILVER HALIDE PHOTOGRAPHIC SENSITIVE MATERIAL AND PROCESSING METHOD THEREFOR

PURPOSE:To obtain a high quality photographic image having sufficiently high max. density and sufficiently low min. density by regulating silver halide particles in a silver halide emulsion contg. a specified magenta coupler. CONSTITUTION:A green sensitive layer is formed with a silver halide emulsion contg. silver halide particles whose particle size distribution curve has at least two peaks. The pref. particle size at the lowest peak is <=0.30mum and that at other peak is <=1.5mum. The silver halide emulsion also contains a magenta coupler represented by formula I, wherein Z is a group of nonmetallic atoms required to form a hetero ring contg. N, X is H or a group which can be released by a reaction with the oxidized product of a color developing agent and R is H or a substituent. Wide gradation and satisfactory tone reproduction are attained.
