The I.C. engine camshaft (1), is used for valve operation. It has cams (2) made of sintered material, fixed against rotation on a separate shaft (3). The cams are formed, ready for assembly and operation, in a multi-stage sintering process. The dimensional and geometric tolerances resulting from the process are equal to those found on subsequently ground cams. USE/ADVANTAGE - Removal of separate grinding process for IC engine cams reduces costs.
