The animal breeding video system records information on an animal(s) [1] within a defined area using video cameras [A,B] to record image information from which animal(s) positioning data is extracted. The recorded data is analysed in respect of pixel related content of colour tones characteristic of the animal(s) and/or defined portions and/or states relating to them. The colour content of the pixels is examined in respect of its pertinence to one or more predefined colour tone volumes. The positioning data is calculated on the basis of pixels whose colour content falls within one or more predefined colour tone volumes.
