PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF VINYLIC POLYMERS, POLYMERIZATION INITIATOR FOR VINYLIC MONOMERS, AND STYRENE RESIN COMPOSITION

A process for the preparation of vinylic polymers, which comprises conducting an anionic polymerization wherein the metal of the cation counter to the carb-anion of the propagation terminal is Mg or Mg/M<1> (wherein M<1> is at least one alkali metal selected from the group consisting of Li, Na and K and the molar concentrations of Mg and M<1> satisfy the relationship: [Mg]/[M<1>] >/= 4) under the conditions of polymerization temperature of 45 to 250 DEG C and concentration of vinylic monomers of 45 to 100 wt.% based on the solvent used in the polymerization; and a polymerization initiator for vinylic monomers containing (R<2>)2Mg (wherein R<2> is hydrocarbyl).
