PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain polyhydroxystyrene derivatives in a simple and safety way by adding polyhydroxystyrene to an alcoholic solution of a specific alkali obtaining a homogeneous polyhydroxystyrene solution, and reacting a this solution with a specific ester. SOLUTION: The polyhydroxystyrene derivatives expressed by formula III are obtained by a process providing a homogeneous polyhydroxystyrene solution by adding the polyhydroxystyrene to the alcoholic solution of alkali obtained by mixing the alkaline reagent (for example; sodium hydroxide, trimethylamine, etc.), and an alcohol (for example; an 1 to 6C alcohol, etc.), and a process carrying out the reaction of the polyhydroxystyrene solution with esters expressed by formula I [R1 is F, a group expressed by formula II (R3 is an 1 to 8C hydrocarbon, etc.), etc.; R2 is an 1 to 8C hydrocarbon, etc.], (for example; ethyl chloroformate, etc.).
