A composite ultrasound transformer contains piezoelectric ceramic transformer elements embedded in plastics. Production of a composite ultrasound transformer comprises: (a) forming flat ceramic bodies (20) having a number of slitted holes (21); (b) placing several ceramic bodies (20) into a casting mold (25); (c) casting the mold with a plastics material (26), preferably a polymer; (d) removing the cast block (28) from the mold; and (e) ceramic material is removed as far as to expose the plastics material (26) at the narrow corners (211).
