PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make power consumption low with simple constitution by preventing line-of-sight detecting operation from being performed by a line-of- sight detection means when a discrimination means discriminates that an eyeball does not exist even when a signal is outputted from a signal output means. SOLUTION: When a detecting light irradiation part 1 irradiates the eyeball with light, reflected light from the eyeball of the irradiating light is received and photoelectrically converted by a photoelectric conversion part 2. The line-of- sight direction of a photographer is detected in a line-of-sight direction arithmetic operation part 3 based on a signal from the conversion part 2. Meanwhile, when an ocular state detection part 4 detects whether or not the photographer looks in a finder, a detection mode is switched to a line-of-sight detection mode or a low consumption detection mode in accordance with the ocular state by the detection part 4. A control part 6 controls the operation of the irradiation part 1 and the arithmetic operation part 3 based on the signal from a mode switching part 5. In the case of discriminating that the eyeball does not exist even when the signal is outputted from the irradiation part 1, the line-of-sight detecting operation is not performed. |
