PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a low-defect, high-performance organic electroluminescent element allowing prevention of an abnormal electric discharge or abnormal sputter caused by charge-up in a film formation prevention layer with a high yield, by dissolving the charge-up in the film formation prevention layer. SOLUTION: In this organic electroluminescent element, a first electrode film 2 and film formation prevention layers 3a, 3b are formed on a substrate 1, while an organic luminescent layer 4 and a second electrode film 5 are sequentially laminated and formed on a film formation prevention layer 3a, 3b non- formed surface on the first electrode film 2. The film formation prevention layers 3a, 3b are electrically semiconductive to have resistivity of 1×1012-1×104Ω.cm.
