PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a light source device by which light reflected by a reflector is led to the inside of a diffusion box without leaking. SOLUTION: The reflector 14 is formed into an elliptic shape having a first focal point F1 and a second focal point F2 which have a conjugate relation. Thus, the image point (the position of the second focal point F2) of the light emitted by the filament 18A of a halogen lamp 18 at the first focal point F1 is set before the diffusion plate 30 of the diffusion box 20, so that the solid angleθof entering light is increased at the time of seeing it from the diffusion plate 30. Thus, the light is taken in by the diffusion box 20 without leaking, and the light quantity of the light radiated to photographic film is increased, so that the picture information of an excellent quality is read by a line CCD sensor 40.
