PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a catalyst for decomposing nitrous oxide having an excellent decomposing power, by making a composite oxide carrier comprising cerium oxide and zirconium oxide carry rhodium. SOLUTION: A composite oxide carrier is used as a catalyst carrier, which comprises cerium oxide and zirconium oxide. The ratio of cerium oxide and zirconium oxide is 90/10-10/90, preferably 90/10-70/30 by molar ratio. The amount of rhodium carrier to the composite oxide carrier is 0.1-10% by weight based on the carrier, preferably 0.5-2% by weight. The burning temperature of the composite oxide carrier is 550-1,200 deg.C. A reactor including the catalyst for decomposing nitrous oxide is installed to contact with nitrous oxide and specially to carry out a catalytic reaction at a temperature of 200-600 deg.C. The catalyst shows an excellent activity even in a high temperature in the decomposing reaction of nitrous oxide and enables nitrous oxide to decompose efficiently. |
