PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sealant having a small through-flow quantity in a compression direction and its orthogonal one, excellent in a water sealing property and also having a high elastic deformation speed. SOLUTION: In a sealant compressed between members and made of an expanded synthetic resin or a foam rubber, a ratio A/B (wherein A is a through- flow quantity in the direction of compression in an uncompressed condition; and B is a through-flow quantity in the direction at right angles to the direction of compression in a compressed condition in the direction of compression by 50%) is 1 to 40. The sealant is produced by sticking needles of a needle-punch 5 from both sides of the expanded synthetic resin or the foam rubber in the direction of compression into it to perforate it.
