A bypass (4) is designed to deform under the effect of temperature to passively allow or prevent access to the supplementary catalytic zone. The device uses a gas generator for catalytic reform using water vapor of a steam/fuel mixture and/or for the partial oxidation of an oxygen/fuel mixture, with a gas purification stage to eliminate the carbon monoxide present in the gas produced by selective oxidation of the CO. At least one supplementary active catalytic zone (3) is mounted upstream of at least one active catalyst reactor zone and can be isolated from the gas generation device and/or the purification stage. The bypass contains a bimetallic element opening or closing the passage as a function of temperature, with the bimetallic element forming a cover over the supplementary catalytic zone, or acting with a rod and valve to open or close the passage. The supplementary zone is placed upstream of the purification stage, with the bypass upstream or upstream and downstream of the supplementary zone. The supplementary zone is placed in part of the cross section of the supply line (1) to the gas generation device and/or purification stage. Heat exchange elements are thermally coupled to limit the temperature of the supplementary zone. The supplementary zone forms a start-up reactor operating exothermically for the gas generator and/or the purification stage. |
