PURPOSE:To prepare an easily readable sentence in any character direction by executing printing in the form of a character being suitable for its character direction by selecting the character direction between lateral writing and vertical writing. CONSTITUTION:When a character direction selecting command is received from a host computer 10, the character direction of lateral writing or vertical writing is selected. Subsequently, when data of a character code is received from the host computer 10, it is stored in a text memory 15. Next, a CPU 12 interprets its character direction, and in the case of a lateral writing mode, font data for lateral writing in the corresponding font data is read out of a lateral writing font 18a of a font ROM 18, and written as image data in a page memory 17. On the other hand, in the case of a vertical writing mode, front data for vertical writing is read out of a vertical writing font 18b of the font ROM 18, and written in the page memory 17. Also, the CPU 12 sends out a signal for a printing start to a printing part 19, and outputs image data from the page memory 17 to the printing part 19. |
