<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structure for preventing sand from being accumulated in an object installed in a waterway, which can prevent the accumulation of grit on its upstream side of the object, installed in the waterway, such as a sediment crusher in a structurally simple manner, and which can eliminate an influence on a movable mechanism part, caused by the sand. <P>SOLUTION: This structure comprises a screen 6 for the transmission of the grit, which is installed to the bottom of the waterway on the upstream side of the sediment crusher 1, and a bypass 7 which is formed below the sediment crusher 1 so as to make the screen 6 communicate with the downstream side of the sediment crusher 1.
