<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an on-vehicle object detecting device and object detecting method for detecting an object by a detecting method depending on respective ranges in consideration that a viewed background and object are different between on an inner side and on an outer side of a road. <P>SOLUTION: A control device 103 extracts an edge of the object existing in an image picked up in a plurality of frames by a camera 101, calculates a moving speed in a horizontal direction in the image of the extracted edge, and detects a road boundary existing in the image on the basis of the moving speed in the horizontal direction of the edge in the calculated image. Then, the image is divided into an upper part and a lower part of the road boundary, and the object is detected from each of the ranges existing in the upper part of the road boundary of the image and the lower part of the road boundary by changing the detecting method of the object in the range existing in the upper part of the road boundary and the detecting method of the object in the range existing in the lower part of the road boundary. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
