A multilayer piezoelectric element (20) comprising a plurality of piezoelectric layers (11) and inner electrode layers (12) laid in layers alternately, a first outer electrode (18) coupling every other inner electrode layers (12) electrically in the layer direction, and a second outer electrode (19) coupling the remaining inner electrode layers (12) electrically. The piezoelectric layer (11) is obtained by molding and sintering a mixture containing Pb, Zr, Ti, Sr, Nb and Zn components, and relative quantities of respective components satisfy, for example, a=0.51, b=2.0×10^-2, c=1.50×10^-2, d=0.5×10^-2, and c/d=3.0 in a general formula Pb(Zr_aTi_1-a)O₃+bSrO+cNvO_2.5+dZnO.
