A method of obtaining a correction value of an optical sensor and a recording apparatus are provided to simply and conveniently obtain the correction value of the optical sensor by calculating the correction value of the optical sensor based on information about a line positioned at a distance Lr from an actual edge position. An apparatus for obtaining a correction value of an optical sensor includes a carriage having a recording head to perform recording on a recorded medium(P) to reciprocate in the scanning direction, a recorded medium feeding device installed upstream the recording head to feed the recorded medium to a region facing the recording head, a discharging device installed downstream the recording head to discharge the medium, an optical sensor to detect an edge of the medium, a carriage position detector to detect a position of the carriage in the main scanning direction, a feeding amount detector to detect a feeding amount of the medium, and a controller to drive the carriage and the feeding device.
