A linear motor and a compressor having the same are provided to obtain a high capacity by installing an electromagnet inside/outside of a permanent magnet. A linear motor includes a movable element, a stator, and an elastic unit(30). The movable element has a permanent magnet(27) having different poles along a shaking direction. The stator has a fixing iron core, and a plurality of electromagnet(23,26) which wind a coil to the fixing iron core. The elastic unit(30) supports the movable element to be vibrated along the shaking direction of the movable element. When the plurality of electromagnets of the stator is excited by an AC current, each magnetic polarity is arranged to apply an alternative force to the permanent magnet(27) by the magnetic poles, attraction, repulsion.
