PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microorganism counting device counting live bacteria and dead bacteria by applying fluorescent dye to a sample containing microorganisms or having possibility of containing microorganisms, and improved in accuracy in comparison with a conventionally well-known technique. SOLUTION: The microorganism counting device 1 enables more accurate count of the number of live bacteria through using a live/dead bacteria-dyeing reagent dyeing both of the live and dead bacteria and a dead bacteria-dyeing reagent dyeing only dead bacteria, wherein the exited wavelength of the live/dead bacteria-dyeing reagent is shorter than that of the dead bacteria-dyeing reagent to firstly discriminate microorganisms from others referring to luminous points emitting fluorescence due to the dyeing reagent dyeing the live bacteria and the dead bacteria and then discriminate the live bacteria from the dead bacteria referring to luminous points detected as those of the microorganisms.
