PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of assaying an HTLV-I-specific T cell response, whereby the assay can be easily performed at the laboratory level, and a reagent therefor to pursue HTLV-I-specific T cell responses in humans or examine T-cell responses of patients with various pathological conditions. SOLUTION: A system for conveniently detecting an HTLV-I-specific T cell response by using a glutathione-S-transferase (GST)/Tax fused protein is constructed by way of trial. Since Tax per se has an activity of inhibiting cell growth or apoptosis, the system is designed so as to divide the Tax protein into three portions. The GST/Tax fused protein is added to peripheral monocytes of an HTLV-I-infected subject. After culturing, IFNγin the culture supernatant is measured. Thus, an HTLV-I-specific cellular immune response is assayed corresponding to the major epitope site in high sensitivity. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
