PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a protective transparent substrate for a liquid crystal panel, which is used for a liquid crystal projector or the like, excellent in light transmittance, heat conductivity and satisfactory in workability. SOLUTION: A high heat conductive transparent cubic polycrystalline substrate is used. The high heat conductive transparent cubic polycrystalline substrate with a coating layer formed on its surface is preferably used, and the double layered coating layer is further preferable as the coating layer. A material for coating preferably comprises two or more kinds selected from metal fluorides and metal oxides.
