PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reliably detect short-circuiting in a rectifier without detecting a current to prevent a switch element in a DC-DC converter. SOLUTION: The DC-DC converter is so constructed that the following takes place: a protection circuit detects the potential at the point of junction between the rectifier and the switch element; and when the junction point potential is equal to or higher than a predetermined potential in a state in which a drive signal turns on the switch element, the switch element is turned off without fail.
