PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for suppressing deterioration where, even when aggregate comprising a silica component which is widely used for mortar or concrete is used, the progress of deterioration in mortar or concrete accompanying alkali aggregate reaction can be easily suppressed without exerting trouble to the condensation and curability of cement and without increasing loads and cost on the process and operation as well, and to provide mortar or concrete in which deterioration is remarkably hard to occur even when aggregate comprising a large quantity of silica is used. SOLUTION: Regarding the method for suppressing deterioration in mortar or concrete, in mortar or concrete comprising silica-containing aggregate, provided that the value of the silica content (mass%) in the whole aggregate to be used is defined as A, 0.7×A mass% of the whole aggregate or above is made of a porous aggregate with opening voids.
