Disclosed is a coating agent essentially containing a synthetic resin emulsion (A) and a powder (B). In each emulsion particle of the synthetic resin emulsion (A), an acrylic resin containing an alkyl (meth)acrylate as a main monomer component and a silicone resin containing a cyclic siloxane compound as a main monomer component coexist at a weight ratio of from 99:1 to 30:70. The powder (B) has an average particle diameter of 0.5-500 mum, and an oil absorption of not more than 60 ml/100g. The coating agent is also characterized in that the powder (B) has a pigment volume concentration of 10-90%. Since this coating agent is suppressed in decrease in water repellency during storage or after formation of a coating film, it stably exhibits excellent water-repellent performance.
