PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an autofocus mechanism which can bring a desired subject into focus in a short time. SOLUTION: An input image is displayed on a display screen 21. In autofocus, a focusing position is detected in a plurality of AF detection areas and held as focusing position information. AF detection frames 2a, and 2d to 2i corresponding to the AF detection area to be focused are displayed on the display screen 21. When the desired AF detection frame is selected by a user, a focus lens is adjusted to be focused on the area corresponding to the selected detection frame by referring to the held focusing position information.
