PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance intake and exhaust efficiencies and achieve size reduction and compactness of a horizontally-opposed engine. SOLUTION: An intake and exhaust structure of a horizontally-opposed engine includes a liner section 52a where a moving sleeve 43 is movably fit to an engine case 41 on an extension of a fixed piston 61A, an intake chamber 90 surrounded by the liner section 52a and a top 43b of the moving sleeve 43, an intake hole 43e opened at the top 43b of the moving sleeve 43 so that the intake chamber 90 and a combustion chamber 48 communicate with each other, an intake valve 82 which opens and closes the intake hole 43e, an exhaust gas port 61e provided at an inner side of the fixed piston 61A, an exhaust port 61w opened at a crown face 61d of the fixed piston 61A so that the combustion chamber 48 and exhaust gas port 61e communicate with each other, and an exhaust gas valve 74 which opens and closes the exhaust port 61w. The fuel/air mixture in the intake chamber 90 is fed into the combustion chamber 48 via the intake hole 43e, the exhaust gas is discharged via the exhaust port 61w into the exhaust gas port 61e after the fuel/air mixture is burnt in the combustion chamber 48.
