A receiver for an optical transmission network having a number of terminals and a central station to which at least one optical fibre is connected, starting from which, terminals are connected via at least one beam divider and other optical fibres, each of which terminals is provided with a transmitter and a receiver for binary optical signals, the receiver of the central station exhibiting an alternating-voltage coupling stage. To make it possible to operate such a network with short synchronisation signals, it is provided that the alternating-voltage coupling stage of the receiver exhibits a timing element (9) having a variable time constant.
