Apparatus for applying liquids e.g. adhesives, comprises a stationary closed tank, one wall of which is provided with at least one dispensing port, means being provided for opening and closing the port as required, said means comprising a flexible strip held flat against the inner face of the said wall, the object to be coated e.g. a paper strip, being moved externally past the port. The flexible strip, preferably a laminated or leaf spring, is set at an angle to the tank wall, the end of the strip being shaped to extend parallel to the wall. The adhesive is preferably applied in the form of a row of dots, by imparting a rapid reciprocatory motion to the flexible strip by means of an adjustable magnet, a driving piston or the like. The connection of the strip to the piston &c. is made through a cuff-shaped membrane, Figs. 1 (not shown). In the preferred embodiment, the thickness of the wall surrounding the dispensing port is greatly reduced, forming a recess, the strip extending into this recess and being held thereby a cross-pin (11), Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown). Instead of a recess, a continuous opening may be provided which is closed by a replaceable foil having the desired dispensing holes therein. The object to be coated passes over a felt pad adjacent the said wall of the tank. |
