摘要 1,029,060. Fluid-pressure brakes. ROCKWELL-STANDARD CORPORATION. Nov. 26, 1963 [April 24, 1963], No. 46620/63. Headings F2E and F2F. A brake actuator comprises a casing 67 aligned service (76) and emergency (78) chambers extending oppositely from a common wall 74, a first brake piston 80 being provided in the service chamber and having a connection 92 to operate a brake mechanism, a second piston 98 being provided in the emergency chamber and provided with a piston stem 104 which extends through a central aperture 106 in the wall section 74 to abut the stub portion 82 on the service brake piston 80 in the normal inoperative condition of the brakes, a cover 114 being detachably secured to the outer end of the emergency chamber and housing a plurality of separate springs 128, each spring being received in cylindrical spaces 126 and each compressed between the cover and the emergency piston 98. In the combined emergency and service brake system for a motor vehicle shown in Fig. 1, the system includes an accumulator 30 supplied with fluid under pressure from a pump 26 via a check valve assembly 28 under the control of a driver's brake valve assembly 32, the front wheels of the vehicle being actuated by conventional brake actuators 20 and 22 through a main brake service line 36, 38 and 40, the rear wheels of the vehicle being supplied with brake actuators disclosed in Fig. 2. In operation, as long as there is pressure in the accumulator 30 and a manually operated valve 60 is in its normal position the emergency piston 98 will be held in its fully retracted position by fluid pressure within the chamber 78 and the brakes may be applied in the normal manner by actuating the driver's brake valve 32 which applies fluid pressure to the front brake actuators 20, 22 and to the rear wheel actuators via chamber 76 through the inlet fitting 94 to force the brake piston 80 outwardly. Under emergency conditions, when hydraulic pressure in the accumulator 30 drops below a predetermined minimum due to leakage in the service brake line, the pressure in the emergency chamber 78 drops until the force exerted by the springs 128 over comes the pressure in chamber 78 and the springs will move the emergency piston 98 forwardly to push the service piston 80 forwardly and apply the brakes. A similar condition is achieved when the manually operated valve 60 is moved to a " park " position. After an emergency application due to accidental pressure loss, a tool 140 may be inserted through an aperture 138 in the cover 114 and attached to the piston 98 to manually compress the springs 128 and thereby release the brakes so that the vehicle can be moved for repair. A low pressure warning device 65 is provided in the line 62 from the accumulator 30 to provide a visible or audible signal in the event of the system pressure dropping below 50% of its normal level. Fig. 4 (not shown) discloses a vacuum boosted hydraulic brake system for controlling the operation of service and emergency brakes in a manner similar to that disclosed with reference to Fig. 1.
