[Also in Division B8] In a dual compartment medicament vial assembly comprising a cylindrical vial which has an open end and a closed end and within which is situated a resilient plug, the cylindrical wall of the vial is restricted intermediate its ends by an annular restriction having a V-shaped cross-section and the cylindrical wall of the plug is provided with an indentation having a V-shaped cross-section, the indentation being adapted, when positioned over the restriction, to form a seal with the restriction. As illustrated in Figure 5, plug 13 has portions of greater diameter 14 than the largest internal diameter of the vial and portions 16 of smaller diameter than the largest internal diameter of the vial; as illustrated in Figure 6, the plug comprises portions 17 and 18 having respective tapered walls 21 and 20 meeting at shallow cylindrical section 19 to define the V-shaped cross-section. Extending the full diameter of the plug are portions 22 between which are spaces 23 defining portions which have a diameter smaller than the diameter of the portions of full diameter but greater than the diameter at the point of indentation, which point of indentation is adapted to sealingly engage the restriction 24 formed in the vial to have a V-shaped cross-section 25 with tip 26, as illustrated in Figure 2. The vial may be provided with a further resilient plug adapted to have a press fit within the vial to close the open end thereof, to be slidable therein upon the application of pressure and to be capable of being pierced by a hypodermic needle; the further plug 27 may comprise a cylindrical body portion formed integrally with a pair of outwardly extending rings 29 and 30 and having a central bore 28 extending partway therethrough. The assembly of vial and two plugs may be encased in a closed housing formed by an outer casing 31 comprising a first cylindrical casing member 32 adapted to fit over the open end of the vial and having an end wall 37 and a portion 33 of enlarged internal diameter forming a shoulder 34 which engages with a portion 36 of reduced external diameter of a second cylindrical casing member 35 adapted to fit over the closed end of the vial and having an end wall 38 with a re-entrant portion 39 closed by a circular end portion 40 which is adapted, after removal of both casing members and repositioning of the second casing member over the open end of the vial, to engage the further plug. The space between the two plugs may contain liquid diluent 44 for a powdered medicament contained in the space 46 between the shaped plug and the closed end of the vial.</p> |
