[Also in Division B3] A tap driver comprises a member 16 connectable to a machine spindle and a part 14 adapted to hold a tapping tool in socket 22; the member and part being telescopically and drivably engaged, the engaging surfaces having hexagonal cross-sections and being separated by a coating 40 of hard, oil sintered plastics or a fluorocarbon. The member and part are biased together by a spring 42 and the member has a threaded shank 20 which fits into a bore of a shank and is held positioned by a locknut on the shank and a set screw in the spindle engaging a notch in the shank. In a modification the coating 40 is replaced by rollers 70 in a cage 60 which is held spaced from the end of bore hole 134 by a spacer spring 64. A wiper 68 and lock ring 66 afford a seal at the open end of part 118. |
