In a ships hatch cover comprising paired sections 1-2, 3-4 and 5-6 which are hinged together at 9 by geared plates 10, 12 pivotably connected by a link 13 and the sections 1 and 6 are hinged to the coaming at 7, an extension 16 pivotably connects the ram 22 to the link 13 and hydraulic fluid admitted to the cylinder 17, disposed within the cover sections 1, 4, 6 and pivotably connected to the cross web 19, imposes a thrust on the extension 16 causing the joint 9 to break upwards until the sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 are vertical and stowed as indicated by chain lines in Fig. 2. Drag links 8 connect to sections 4 and 5 so that when the pair 5-6 are being stowed they pull along the pair 3-4 for stowing in succession. The hatch cover may comprise any number of panel sections. |
