The solutions consist of film- and fibre-forming polyaminoacids dissolved in tetrachloroethane, chlorobenzene and/or nitrobenzene. The polyaminoacids are homopolymers, polymer blends or copolymers of a L-, D- or DL-aminoacid, and have a mol. wt. above 10000, for example poly-gamma-methyl-L-glutamate of mol. wt. 100,000-1,000,000. The compositions are prepared by adding a solvent which is a poor solvent for the polyaminoacid (such as an aliphatic alcohol, ketone or ether) to a polyaminoacid polymerisation solution (pref. containing ethylene dichloride) in order to precipitate the polyaminoacid; and then dissolving the precipitate in tetrachloroethane, chlorobenzene and/or nitrobenzene, pref. at 70 deg.C. The solutions contain polymers of desired mol. wt. range, giving spun or extruded objects with improved quality. |
