[Also in Division B1] Recovery of ethylene oxide from the gaseous effluent of the vapour phase reaction of ethylene and oxygen under ethylene oxide forming conditions at 12 is effected by drying said effluent at 14, passing it through a line 15 to an absorber 16 where it is scrubbed with a non- aqueous liquid absorbent e.g. liquid ethane, methane, ethylene, withdrawing a lean gas at 18 and an ethylene oxide rich liquid at 17, stripping absorbent from said liquid at 22 and withdrawing product liquid ethylene oxide at 27. Absorbent in the gaseous phase is withdrawn from the stripper at 23, is condensed at 24 and returned through a line 25 to the absorber 16. Cooling of condenser 24, and of lines 25, 5 is effected by heat exchangers 26, 21 in a refrigerant circuit.</p> |
