摘要 1,065,322. Machine tool details. SCULLY-ANTHONY CORPORATION. Oct. 2, 1963 [April 22, 1963], No. 38854/63. Heading B3B. Automatic tool-changing apparatus comprises tool transfer means 60 for moving a tool from the machine spindle 24 to an exchanger member 124 at an interchange position, the exchanger member having means to hold a new tool and transfer it to the transfer means. Parts of the apparatus and the tools are similar to those described in Specifications 1,004,625 and 1,004,626. In operation, a tool is removed from a magazine IV by a gripper 34 which is traversed upwardly on a slideway III. The slideway is rotated through 90 degrees so that the tool can be picked up by a horizontally-movable device 128, the gripper 34 then being moved to an upper position. The device 128, with the tool in one socket 36 of a double-socketed arm 124, is advanced along rods 38, 40 by a motor 48 driving a chain 46. The transfer arm 60 grips the flange of the tool in the spindle 24, withdraws it axially, is rotated to a vertical position and then retracted within a block 54 to place the tool in the empty socket of the arm 124. The arm 124 is then rotated by rack-and-pinion means operated by a fluid pressure device 130 so that the arm 60 can grasp the new tool 28. The flange 30 of the tool is grasped by a pivoted jaw 70 operated by springs which can be released by a fluid pressure piston. The arm 60 is moved axially by a fluid pressure device 90 and is rotated by a fluid-pressure device 104 and rack-and-pinion means. For picking up a tool from the spindle 24, the axial position of the sleeve 56 carrying the arm 60 is determined by a spring-operated plunger engaging a recess 115, Fig. 3. In modifications, the arm 60 may move linearly instead of angularly, the arm 124 may rotate about an axis not parallel to that of the spindle and the device 128 may comprise a shuttle slide and an arm 124 which are separate. Alternatively, the arm 60 may move only angularly and a separate shuttle may extract the tool from the spindle and move it into the arm 60 which may then transfer the tool to a further shuttle or move axially to place the tool in the arm 124. In a further modification, each tool-holder may have a collar 180, Fig. 7A, gripped by the jaws of a bevelled collet 178 engaged by a spring 176 and actuated by a sleeve 172 on a push-rod urged to closing position by springs and released by fluid-pressure. The chuck and its actuating mechanism are contained in a sleeve 144 which can be moved axially by fluid-pressure means to advance the tool so that it can be picked up by the arm 60. In yet another modification, the tool 28<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 8, is extracted from the spindle by jaws 203 on sliding rods 200, 202.
