The movements of an animated figure are controlled by a multi-frequency signal source providing an animation programme. The embodiment describes a bird-like figure in which the beak opens and shuts, the head tilts or turns from side to side, the breast swells and the body inclines on its perch. The beak 48, Fig. 2, opens under the influence of a solenoid 60, and the head 37 turns left or right about a pivot 84 according to the operations of one or other of air cylinders 106, 108 fed by air ducts 22, 24, respectively. The head tilts similarly under the influence of an air cylinder 124 through the medium of a linkage 126, 136. The breast swells similarly by means of a cylinder 140 and sliding member 144, and the body inclines on its perch by means of a cylinder 148 and linkage 150. The combined air ducts 32 pass out through perch supports 14, and the current to the solenoid is carried through the same support by wires 20. The movements are initiated by signals from a tape recorder 156, one set of signals passing through an amplifying channel 162, 164 to produce sound at a loudspeaker 166 and operating signals for the beak solenoid 60. Other signals comprise separate control frequencies for operating tuned relays which operate current relays controlling air valves to the various air cylinders for producing the other movements of the figure. |
