Dental restoration prosthesis, such as, for example, crowns, are to be produced from a blank using a machining device, which blank has a first section (9) for material-removing machining of the prosthesis (14) and a second section (9a) for holding the blank in the machining device (4). In order to be able to produce the prosthesis more efficiently, it is proposed to use a blank in which the first section (9a) is dimensioned, in terms of its axial and radial extent, in such a way that it is possible to produce from this blank the prosthesis (14) and a holding or supporting body (16) onto which the prosthesis can be attached after machining of its outer contour and an inner contour (15) corresponding to the contour of the supporting body.
