1,197,064. Laminated glass fibre webs. UNION CARBIDE CORP. 16 June, 1967, No. 27846/67. Heading B5N. [Also in Divisions B2, C3 and D1] A laminate comprises a plurality of woven or non-woven glass fibre webs impregnated with one or more resins selected from styrene-acrylonitrile copolymers, vinyl chloride polymers e.g. polyvinyl chloride, polyhydroxy ether resins, polyarylene polyethers or polysulphones. The laminates may be made by assembling a plurality of semi-rigid sheets (prepregs) each formed by impregnating a glass fibre web with a solution of the resin and drying, and subjecting the assembly to heat and pressure. In an alternative method, sheets of the resin are interleaved with the prepregs prior to the application of heat and pressure. Degradation of the resin of the prepregs may be effected during or after drying and is preferably effected prior to lamination. The fibres of the webs may be resin bonded prior to formation of the prepregs.
|
