Raw sewage is directed by inlet port 40 against wall 34 and flows downwardly through filter bed 10. Air, which may be warmed passed up tube 24 with entrained waste water and part is transferred through opening 36 to a similar bed 12 while part flows over the top of tube 24 and is directed by the baffle 34 back into the bed 10. The beds may be repeated or may be modified to provide a sedimentation basin or the liquid may be discharged through 38 to a storage area. Recirculation ratios in the beds are given.</p> |
