A hydrocarbon stream is hydroformed using a catalyst comprising a Group IIB metal and crystalline alumino-silico-zeolite (pore size 6 angstroms) with hydrogen at elevated temperature and pressure. A part or all of the hydroformed stream is contacted with a hydroforming catalyst in the presence of hydrogen at elevated temperature and pressure to give a product of higher octone number. Spec. Zn may be used in the first catalyst, and the Pt group metals are prefered for the second catalyst. The hydroformed hydrocarbons are useful as motor fuels, having higher octane value, and giving improved speed and anti-knock properties.
|
