1,162,126. Adducts of hexachlorocyclopenadiene and tetrahydrophthalic anhydride. DOW CHEMICAL CO. 14 Feb., 1967 [16 Feb., 1966], No. 6947/67. Heading C2C. 1,2,3,4,9,9 - Hexachloro - 1,4,4a,5,6,7,8,8a - 1,4 - methano - naphthalene - 6,7 - dicarboxylic anhydride is prepared by reacting approximately stoichiometric proportions of hexachlorocyclopentadiene and tetrahydrophthalic anhydride with each other at a temperature in the range 175-195‹ C. in the presence of an inert aromatic hydrocarbon, aromatic halohydrocarbon or hydrogenated aromatic hydrocarbon, boiling at a temperature in the range 165-260‹ C., the inert liquid acting as solvent and reaction medium. The inert liquid is used in an amount equal or less in weight than the reactants. The preferred solvents are decalin and aromatic compounds having the formula in which R is a C 1 -C 4 alkyl radical, Y is chlorine or a C 1 -C 4 alkyl radical, X and Z are hydrogen or C 1 -C 4 alkyl radicals, with the proviso that X and Z cannot both be hydrogen when R is methyl, and mixtures of these compounds. |
