PURPOSE:To produce 4-methylpentene-1 in high activity and selectivity. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst composed of a mixture of an alkali metal with potassium carbonate, an alkaline earth metallic oxide in an amount of 1-8wt.% based on the weight of the catalyst and carbon in an amount of 0.2-1.5wt.% based on the weight of the catalyst is used in a method for producing 4- methylpentene-1 by the dimerizing reaction of propylene.
