A vacuum advance and retard mechanism for an ignition distributor used for internal-combustion engines comprises a diaphram box which has two vacuum spaces 21, 30 separated from each other and connected to different points on the engine intake manifold at least one diaphram 18 being clamped in the diaphram box and adapted to move against the force of a return spring 28. A full rod 24 is secured to the diaphram, the full rod extending outside the diaphram box a second diaphram 16 carrying a stop 35 for engagement with the first diaphram is also arranged in the diaphram box. The two diaphrams are adjustable independently of each other in opposite directions by the vacuum in their associated vacuum spaces. In a modification (not shown) an annular vacuum space at the bottom of the diaphram box is closed by a further annular diaphram whose inner edge is secured to a stop sleeve and whose outer edge is clamped between a support surface of the housing base and a support ring. |
