<p>Hydroxyethoxycoumaris, useful as brighteners in electroplating baths (for example Ni deposition) and as intermediates in pesticide production, have formula (I)., (where R1 and R2 are H or organic groups, particularly aliphatic hydrocarbyl, and n and p are integers 1 to 3, and Q is 1 or 2. They are prepared by reacting corresp. hydroxycoumarins with ethylene oxide in presence of weak bases, pref. in an organic solvent at 90-200 degrees C.</p> |
