[Also in Division C1] In a process for the preparation of an enzyme (characterized in detail in the Specification by solubility, activity and molecular weight) having a high breakdown activity on living and non-living organic tissues, organisms, and organic excretion products, a mould fungus of the genus Fusarium is cultured in a culture medium and the enzymes produced separated from the medium. The enzyme produced causes the dissolution of cellulose, fish, meat, fruit skins and vegetable matter but does not hydrolyse casein. The enzyme mixture may be used as such to clear choked drains, or accelerate the working of septic tanks, or may be separated e.g. by precipitation or adsorption methods and purified chromatographically for medicinal or cosmetic uses. |
