Strengthening wood with phenolfurfurol-formaldehyde resin

摘要

Physical/mechanical strength of wood improved as well as its water and moisture resistance, with conferment of a low degree of swelling and an increased strength on compression parallel to the direction of the fibres, by saturating the wood with a phenolfurfurol/formaldehyde resin and pref. curing the resin at 80-200 degrees C in the presence of 0.5-5% benzenessulphonic acid.
