Compositions comprise (i) a cross-linked particulate polymer of an a -monoolefin and (ii) a non-crosslinked thermoplastic polymer of an a -monoolefin the melting point of which is higher than that of the polymer (i) in the non-crosslinked state. The polymers may be (i) an irradiated polyethylene of density less than 0.940 g./c.c., particularly scrap, having a gel content of 10 to 90 weight per cent, and (ii) a polymer of an a -monoolefin having a density at least 0.940 g./c.c., e.g. polyethylene, polypropylene or an ethylene/butene-1 copolymer. The polymer (i) may be powdered or pelletized and blended with polymer (ii) in particulate form or in conventional milling and blending equipment. The compositions may also comprise stabilizers, antislip and antistatic agents, fillers, pigments and plasticizers, particularly microcrystalline wax, and may be formed into oriented films or extruded to form sheets, particularly for vacuum forming shaped articles.ALSO:Compositions for moulding or extrusion comprise (i) a crosslinked particulate polymer of an a -monoolefin; (ii) a non cross-linked thermoplastic polymer of an a -monoolefin, the melting point of which is higher than that of polymer (i) in the non crosslinked state; and (iii) micro-crystalline wax as plasticizer. Examples describe compositions of microcrystalline wax, irradiated polyethylene and ethylene/butene-1 copolymer. |
