1,157,772. Needle boards. SINGER CO. 25 Jan., 1968 [30 Jan., 1967], No. 3918/68. Heading D1R. A needle board comprises at least one rigid layer 44 having a plurality of apertures 52 therein, and at least one resilient layer 54 contiguous to the rigid layer and providing needle gripping means to support felting needles 32 extending into the apertures 52 in the rigid layer 44. The resilient layer may be fixed to the rigid layer as by adhesive or screws. The apertures in the rigid layer may be of any desired shape or arrangement e.g. circular, rectangular, triangular or hexagonal, and the resilient layer is provided with an identical arrangement of holes 56 so that the holes of the resilient layer are in alignment with those of the rigid layer. A further plate 58 may be used to prevent axial displacement of the needles 32 in the board. The holes in the resilient layer which may be made of rubber or plastics material, may be provided with . radial, slots and/or projections to accomodate larger and/or smaller than regular sized felting needles. The rigid layer may be in the form of a frame having ribs 46 between the apertures: In a further embodiment the rigid layer is provided with grooves in its upper and lower surfaces, which grooves receive resilient plates having the needle retaining holes therein. |
