N:N'-Substd. 2:4:5-triketo-imidazolidines, which in the form of their low mol. wt. products find application as intermediates for various organic syntheses, as starting materials for medicaments and parasiticides, as stabilisers for condensation and polymerisation resins, as temp.-resistant formed products, as coatings for metals, and ceramics, and as mouldings contng. glass fibres or graphite fillers, are produced by reacting oxamido-acid alkyl esters contng. the gp. -NH-CO-COORv (where Rv is aliphatic hydrocarbon gp. with is not >18C, cycloaliphatic is not >8C hydrocarbon gp., mononuclear aromatic hydrocarbon gp. opt. replaced by hydrocarbon gps. with is not >14C) at -20 degrees C. to +280 degrees C. in the presence or absence of a catalyst with isocyanates or cpds. dissociating into isocyanates and with polycarbonic acids which are aromatic, satd. or unsatd., olefinic, dibasic-hexabasic with 4-70C atoms and/or their anhydrides to form condensates contng. amide and/or imide gps.
