Mild or medium carbon steel of compsn. by wt. 0.03-0.25% C, 0.3-1.5% Mn, 0-0.5% Si, 0-0.04% P, 0-0.04% S, normal residual content according to the working process being considered, (rimming semi-killed or killed steel etc) balance Fe where 0.03-0.1% Zr is added in place of usual additions. Steel has improved resilience at much lower additives cost.
